For many centuries, Catholic cathedrals were home to a schola cantorum. Translated literally, this simply means school of singing; however, a cathedral’s schola was about more than singing. Growing out of the deep roots of monastic tradition, a schola at its finest combines the monks’ sense of brotherhood with a goal of self improvement, both musically and spiritually. It accomplishes this through entering more deeply into music, liturgy, Sacred Scripture, and spiritual writings.
The Schola is open to Catholic men who are looking to serve the church and grow as disciples of Christ, through music, brotherhood, and a deepening of their faith.
You must be able to commit to weekly participation on Saturdays, from 4pm-6:30pm.
Previous musical experience is welcome, but not required.
Contact Dr. Glenn Hunter, OLV Music Director, or come by the Cathedral Annex Saturday, April 5th at 4pm to visit and decide if you're a good fit for this group.
