The Sacrament of Baptism
Baptismal Instruction classes for parents and sponsors are held the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Religious Education Office. Parents should bring a copy of the city issued birth certificate of the child to the class. To schedule a baptism or if you have any questions, please call the Rectory at 575-4741.
Parents must be registered parishioners of Our Lady of Victory prior to attending the class in order to have their child baptized at the Cathedral. The class is also open to non-parishoiners who are in need of the instruction to have their child baptized at another parish or to serve as sponsors for an upcoming baptism in another parish. A certificate of completion will be presented to all at the end of the instruction to present at another parish for proof of attendance. In our parish, a person needs to attend a class every three years to remain current. That requirement may be different for baptizing at another parish's church.
"Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.""Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments."
